For Patients facing Life-Threatening Illnesses, Reliable Transport is making a Difference

Somerset West, 02 November 2026.  For Helderberg Hospice patients, access to medical care involves more than clinical services from caregivers.  Reliable transport can be essential to reaching appointments, maintaining continuity of care and preserving dignity during serious illness.

Helderberg Hospice, which has 52 full-time staff and supported by 160 volunteers, provides palliative care to patients and families affected by life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, organ failure and HIV/AIDS. Its work focuses on improving quality of life and supporting people through some socio-health challenges.

Recognizing this need, Wolf Kreft, Dealer Principal of Hyundai Somerset West, has built a longstanding relationship with the Helderberg Hospice, using mobility resources to support the facility.

“While our core business is selling cars, we are equally cognizant that mobility should be about helping people access the care they need, with dignity and compassion.  If we can make a difficult day a little easier for a patient and their family, then we are doing something that truly matters,” said Kreft.

Hyundai Somerset West has provided the Hyundai STARIA, EXTER, H100 as well as the GRAND i10 vehicles to transport patients to and from medical facilities, at no cost to the patients.  The support helps ease the burden on patients and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

“A ride to the doctor in a reliable vehicle can make a difference in a life of a critically-ill patient.  For patients facing serious illness, it can mean getting the care they need without the added worry of transport costs,” Kreft added.

But the dealership’s support does not stop at the vehicles.  They also drive fundraising events that help sustain the hospice’s palliative care services.  Amongst others, they hosted the Celebration of Life, Carols by Candlelight and Open Gardens.  In 2025, Kreft supported the organisation’s cycling team as they participated in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, raising funds in celebration of the Hospice’s 40th anniversary.

Robert de Wet, CEO of Helderberg Hospice has publicly thanked Kreft for supporting the organisation’s fundraising cycling team.

“We are deeply grateful to Wolf and Hyundai Somerset West for helping make essential journeys possible for our patients.  Their support helps us provide care with dignity, compassion and reassurance when patients and families need it most.”

Kreft’s commitment to the community goes hand in hand with 25 years of service at Hyundai Automotive South Africa.  After nine years as a Finance and Insurance manager, he moved into dealership leadership, helping establish Hyundai in Somerset West and Stellenbosch.
