Chery secured 6.7% of the passenger-car market in August, continuing its steady rise through the local sales rankings
- Chery sold 2,763 passenger vehicles in August 2026, placing the brand fourth in the market.
- August volumes were 22.4% higher than the 2,258 units recorded in January.
- The Tiggo 4 Pro led the range with 2,297 sales during the month.
Chery South Africa moved into fourth place in the country’s passenger-car market in August, following another strong month of sales. The brand sold 2,763 vehicles during the month, accounting for 6.7% of the 41,216 passenger cars sold across South Africa. The result also saw Chery move up one position from July.
August continued the steady progress Chery has made throughout 2026. Monthly sales have risen from 2,258 units in January to 2,602 in June and 2,763 in August, an increase of 22.4% since the beginning of the year. This follows a strong first half in which Chery sold 14,593 vehicles, up 24.9% from the 11,687 recorded during the same period in 2025.
The Tiggo 4 Pro was once again Chery’s largest volume contributor, with 2,297 units sold in August. It accounted for more than four out of every five Chery vehicles sold during the month. The Tiggo 7 added 285 sales, followed by the Tiggo 8 with 137 and the Tiggo 9 with 44.
“Moving into fourth place is a proud moment for us, particularly when you consider how recently Chery returned to South Africa,” said Jay Jay Botes, General Manager for Chery South Africa.
“But this has not happened overnight. We have watched demand build steadily as more people have come to know our vehicles and the value they offer. August is an important marker of that progress, and we are deeply grateful to every customer who has chosen Chery.”

The result comes at an important point for Chery as the brand prepares to introduce the Chery Q. Launching imminently, it will be the first fully electric vehicle in the company’s South African lineup and will take the brand into the growing compact urban EV market.
Priced from R349 900 and at 4.2 metres long, the Q has a city-friendly footprint but uses its dedicated electric platform to create a 2.7-metre wheelbase and a surprisingly spacious cabin. Rear-wheel drive, a 70-litre front storage compartment and carrying capacity of up to 1,450 litres give it a character quite different from Chery’s existing SUV range. Full specifications and pricing will be confirmed at launch.
Chery’s growing product range is supported by Chery Family Care, which brings the brand’s after-sales and customer-support initiatives together. This includes the Trans-national Warranty Programme, allowing customers to access warranty support in markets where Chery has an authorised presence, subject to the terms of the original warranty and applicable local regulations.
