Trendy new food trucks add to the BIG menu at Rand Show 2016

With so much to do at Joburg’s BIGGEST day out, you’re likely to work up quite an appetite. Luckily, as you’ve come to expect with the Rand Show, there’s something to suit the taste of every member of the family.
And this year, some of the trendiest food on wheels will be rolling up to the Rand Show’s foodie zone at Link 5/6. You’ve seen them out and about at farmers markets and community events, now these mobile food trucks bring their fresh, local food to the Rand Show.
FRESH, LOCAL FARE FROM TRENDY FOOD TRUCKS
South Africa's first true pop-up ice cream parlour, the Knickerbocker Ice Cream Company, will be serving artisan-made gelato, sorbet and Bulgarian frozen yoghurt, plus real dairy soft serve, ice cream sundaes, waffles and milkshakes.
Longtom Foods will be serving its famous Boerie rolls, delicious cheese grillers, gourmet hot dogs and hamburgers, and scrumptious pregos, to name a few items on the menu.
The Brohemian Pizza Truck will roll up over the weekends, delivering wood-fired pizza made with fresh, free-range, and organic ingredients to Rand Show visitors’ plates.
The pink waffle cabin of SA Belgian Waffles serves authentic Belgian waffles, deep indented waffles with a crisp golden brown outside and a soft, airy inside. Come and try the legendary Liege Waffle with pearl sugar imported from Belgium that caramelises when baked, and “The Real Stick Waffle” dipped in caramel sauce and rolled in crushed nuts or Oreos.
Sumting Fresh offers hungry show-goers the best gourmet street food in Jozi, with tasty dishes like the Soft-shell Crab Bun or Chicken Goujon on the menu.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Grab a picnic bench under the umbrellas in the outdoor food court for great-taste, great-value meals. There are steak and wors rolls with wedges, and meat and pap with gravy at the Steak & Grill. Or stake your claim to a prego from Porra’s Pregos, or a curry from Cafe Curryleaves. Add a few cooldrinks and beers and the festive sounds of the entertainers on the outdoor Spice of Life Stage, and you’ve got the perfect way to chill out and refuel.
HOME-GROWN CRAFT BEER
The Steak & Grill on the outdoor food court is now serving the home-grown craft beer, Soweto Gold, brewed almost on the doorstep of the Rand Show at the uBuntu Kraal Brewery in Orlando West Ext, Soweto.
REVAMPED FOOD COURT
The airy indoor food court is the perfect place to find whatever your taste buds demand for lunch: Pizza? Hamburgers? Chicken? Asian food? Fish and chips? Gourmet hot dogs? Or would you prefer more health-conscious fare like salads, wraps, sandwiches and fruit? The choice is yours.
BUFFET BLISS
The upstairs restaurant in Hall 6 offers delicious buffet fare at reasonable prices. There’s a salad bar and a choice of pastas, casseroles, curries and seasonal vegetables,

Enjoy fish and chips or calamari and chips at the new Oliver’s Fish & Chips.

Any bigger and you’d need a takeaway box ... it’s the monster 40 cm cheese griller from the Sausage Saloon.

Whichever is your favourite – Smooch, Wakaberry, or Bella and Boo – the Rand Show’s got frozen yoghurt covered. With a wide selection of flavours and sprinkles, yoghurt’s never been this much fun.

What would a day out at the Rand Show be without these perennial show favourites? Mini doughnuts smothered in caramel and chocolate sauce. Pancakes. The spiral-cut fried potato ‘chip’ from ChipStix. And the always-moreish Chip n Dip. Not to mention ice-creams, candy floss, chips and sweets.
