Johannesburg, 02 September 2026.  They spend their weekdays chasing and competing for vehicle customers.  This past weekend, Hyundai Automotive South Africa executives Johan Nel and Joshua Lowe took that competitive spirit to the Festival of Motoring, held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and delivered.

Following his victory at the Red Star Raceway in June this year, Nel who is the company’s Sales Director, secured his second consecutive win in the Modified Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) category, recording a best lap time of 2:01.856 driving the modified Hyundai i30N.  The event attracted 55 competitors, with 8 entries competing in the Modified FWD class.

“What continues to impress is just how capable the Hyundai i30N is.  Exceptional straight from the showroom floor and with a few carefully considered modifications, it transforms into a formidable track machine capable of delivering lap times that far exceed expectations,” he said.

Lowe, the company’s General Manager for Sales, took second position in the Modified Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) category, in an impressive lap time of 2:02.696.  He said the race was testing however he is happy with securing second position. 

“It was tough and I had to stay focused, manage the car and keep pushing even when things were not going perfectly.  Second place was a good result although naturally, the goal is always to win.” 

The racing pressure is something Nel knows well from his day job.  “Selling cars is also competitive.  You prepare, know your opponents, understand your customer and then you have to perform when it matters. Racing is exactly the same.”
