The Chery Tiggo 7 CSH has been recognised as a finalist in the prestigious 2026 South African Car of the Year (SACOTY) competition, following the latest round of evaluation by the SACOTY jury. The selection highlights the Tiggo 7 CSH’s relevance in a market increasingly focused on efficiency, affordability and real-world usability.

This is supported by a well-rounded package that combines strong safety specification, real-world efficiency, responsive performance and modern in-car technology, all aimed at everyday usability.

Shortlisted after extensive deliberation by SA COTY’s expert jury, the Chery Tiggo 7 CSH was evaluated on quality, safety, performance, and its suitability for South African conditions, and will now progress to a rigorous three-day assessment at Zwartkops Raceway in Tshwane.

“The Tiggo 7 CSH was developed to address real customer needs around efficiency and value,” said Tony Liu, CEO of Chery South Africa. “Its recognition in the South African Car of the Year competition affirms our approach to offering advanced technology that is both practical and attainable in a highly competitive SUV segment.”

“The fact that Chinese brands account for a third of this year’s finalists, alongside the growing presence of new-energy vehicles, underscores the rising influence of manufacturers like Chery, and reflects the confidence South African consumers and industry experts are placing in our vehicles,” added Liu.

Powered by a turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, the Tiggo 7 CSH delivers a combined 265 kW and 530 N.m of torque, while its 18.3 kWh battery enables up to 93 km of electric-only driving. The electrified powertrain delivers responsive performance for everyday driving while maintaining a smooth, refined experience. The combined range extends to 1,200 km, allowing the vehicle to cover longer distances with minimal fuel stops, with a combined fuel consumption of 5.4 L/100 km.

Safety is a key focus of the Tiggo 7 CSH, which is equipped with eight airbags and a suite of driver-assistance systems, offering a combination of passive and active protection. Its safety is aligned with NCAP standards, supporting driver confidence across a range of driving conditions.

In addition to its safety credentials, the Tiggo 7 CSH offers a high level of standard specification across both Plus and Ultra trims, including dual digital displays and wireless smartphone connectivity, an eight-speaker Sony sound system and a 540-degree panoramic camera.

The in-car system is supported by a Qualcomm 8155 chipset, enabling fast system response and stable performance, while intelligent voice control provides intuitive access to key vehicle functions.

Practicality is further supported by generous luggage capacity and a versatile cabin layout suited to everyday family use.

“We sincerely congratulate all the finalists of the 2026 COTY competition on reaching the final round,” commented Presodhini Naicker, Executive of Marketing and Communication at Old Mutual Insure. “As a long-standing supporter, we value SA COTY’s credibility, consistency and relevance.”

For four decades, the competition has empowered consumers to make informed vehicle choices, and it continues to provide a credible platform through which we can meaningfully advance our road-safety message. This alignment speaks directly to our commitment to protecting what matters most, not only vehicles, but the people who use them,” concluded Naicker.
