The SACSA Easter Tournament in South Africa has been running for over 65 years, making it one of the longest-running community sporting events in South Africa. The tournament began to bring together the Chinese community, and has since grown into a major multi-sport event that unites diverse Asian communities across South Africa through sport, connection and shared experience. What started with soccer, table tennis and basketball has now grown to also include volleyball, badminton, golf and most recently, padel.

The SACSA Easter Tournament opening ceremony saw distinguished dignitaries and community leaders in attendance, including a keynote address by Ambassador Wu of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa. He emphasised the importance of sportsmanship, unity, and the positive role that the Chinese community plays in South Africa. He also highlighted how sporting platforms like SACSA fosters cultural exchange and strengthens community ties.

With a rich 130‑year global legacy and now headquartered under SAIC Motor in China, LDV South Africa partnered with this year’s SACSA Easter Tournament.

Here, strong participation from across the community brought players and supporters together for an inclusive and competitive three days. LDV’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to supporting active, growing and community-driven events. As the Official Padel Apparel Partner, LDV’s presence extended beyond traditional signage, with branded tournament shirts worn by all players which created lasting visibility and engagement throughout the event and beyond.

"We’re proud to support the SACSA Padel Tournament, bringing players and communities together for a weekend of sport, fun and connection," says Gerhard Moolman, CEO of LDV South Africa.

Padel was introduced to the tournament in 2024 and has since demonstrated strong growth, with participation more than doubling within two years, reflecting both the rapid rise of padel and strong community engagement. This year,  the tournament welcomed over 130 players over three days and across three exciting formats.

The Ladies Division, introduced for the first time this year to grow female participation, saw Ming Guo and Niki Howson claim the Cup, awarded to the division champions, while Grace Huang and Angela Huang took the Plate and second place. In the Open Division, 52 teams competed across Intermediate and Advanced levels: Jesse Yeun and Julian Sam won the Intermediate Cup, with Sean York and Nick Koo securing the Plate; in the Advanced category, Tony Guo and Bill Guo won first place, while David Yeh and Elton Chin came in second. Adding a fun and collaborative twist, the Team Unity Cup encouraged players to partner with new teammates, which ended in a final showdown between Team Moutai and Team Live Laugh Lob, with Team Moutai emerging as the winners.

LDV was launched into South Africa in May 2024, and comes with a proven track record in Asia and Australia. With new models being introduced, an expanding dealer network, comprehensive warranties, and a growing team, including newly appointed CEO Gerhard Moolman, LDV is set to strengthen its presence, deliver even greater value in quality commercial and family vehicles, and support communities across South Africa by partnering on the right projects that align with its values.
